SAML is a protocol that is based on certificate trust between the parties. The service provider (SP) signs the SAML requests with its certificate, and the Identity Provider signs SAML responses with its own certificate. Occasionally, certificates on either end will have to be updated before they expire. Follow the links above for guides on how to update certificates.
